La Cuna is not an adoption agency. Each child placed with a La
Cuna family has a reunification plan with his or her biological parents. Unless
it puts the child at risk, agency staff strongly support that plan. Our social workers
coach each foster parent on ways to support the potential reunification process.
Whenever possible, La Cuna parents form a bridge of support that helps parents who
are struggling, so that biological families can ultimately remain intact. In fact,
one La Cuna Mother has become a "Madrina" (godmother) to a La Cuna child, following
the reunification with the child's father. This Madrina is just one example of the
commitmentt La Cuna looks for in screening prospective foster parents.
Approximately half of all foster children will reunify with their parents. When
reunification is not possible and an extended family member is not available, foster
parents in some cases may be asked by their child's county social worker if they
have an interest in adopting.
If you are interested in adopting a child, and have the personal commitment to help
a foster child regardless of whether the result is reunification or adoption, La
Cuna would encourage you to consider foster parenting. The lives of the innocent
children you touch will be changed forever with your help.
